It’s a big day for reSource Leadership International. We are delighted to announce that the reSource Board of Directors has named a new president. This news comes with joy from Peter DenHaan, who now celebrates his new role as President Emeritus after 12 years of selfless service.  

The new president of reSource is Dr. Christopher M. Hays. Christopher is a New Testament scholar (DPhil, Oxford) who served as a missionary professor for eight years at one of our partner schools, the Biblical Seminary of Colombia (where he was shaped by the seminary rector, Elizabeth Sendek, who is also a member of our Board of Directors!). During his years in Medellín, he split his time between teaching Bible and Greek to Colombian ministers (including some of the very seminarians reSource is currently scholarshipping) and working with victims of Colombia’s violent conflict.  

Christopher’s passion is to cultivate global Christian leaders who combine healthy theology with courage to act justly and with love to do mercy, especially for the parts of the Majority World Church that are confronting the greatest trials. He believes that loving God with heart, mind, and strength means that Christian theology must apply intense study of Scripture to the gravest challenges of our age in order to support churches to be salt and light in the world’s deepest darknesses. Christopher is the author of several books in Spanish and English, the most recent of which is Eight Million Exiles. He and his wife, Michelle, have three children (Judah, Asher, and Zoe) and one neurotic small dog.  

The appointment of our new president presents a unique opportunity to deepen an old friendship and leverage a powerful partnership. Christopher also serves as the president of Scholar Leaders (SL), a ministry with which reSource has partnered on many projects over the years—in Ukraine, in Vietnam, and in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both reSource and SL exist to support Majority World theological leaders and institutions and to foster the flourishing of the church around the globe. Because our visions and missions thoroughly align, Christopher will now lead both organizations, thereby maximizing the impact of our programs in pursuit of our shared vision. Excited by this prospect, the boards of reSource and SL have unanimously voted to join forces as partner ministries, to extend our reach and enhance our impact, together.  

Peter and Christopher have an overwhelming sense of God’s kindness to us in this partnership. In the coming months, as Peter recovers from his knee surgery, he’s excited to travel with Christopher to help him get to know the community of friends that makes reSource’s ministry possible.  

Thank you for your faithful partnership with reSource. We’re thrilled to see how God continues the good work he began in reSource (then, Overseas Council – Canada) over 45 years ago.
